Actor Prakash Raj has confirmed that he will be seen as a great devotee of Lord Shiva in Varanasi. As Mahesh Babu's father in the movie, his character carries weight.
Several theories have sprung up about the nature of his character. Since Mahesh Babu’s character, Rudhra, has a confirmed Lord Rama avatar in a pivotal sequence, fans speculate Prakash Raj will mirror a King Dasharatha-like figure. Another theory is that he may be a scholar or a guardian of ancient secrets in the city of Kashi (Varanasi) who sets Mahesh Babu’s character on his mission. While Prithviraj Sukumaran is the confirmed primary antagonist (Kumbha), Prakash Raj could play a "grey" character, a father whose past mistakes or secret affiliation with ancient cults in Varanasi create the film's central conflict.
Varanasi, co-starring Priyanka Chopra, is scheduled to be released in theatres on April 7 next year.
Recently, Prakash Raj was in the news over Prabhas' Spirit. He is playing a jailer in this Sandeep Reddy Vanga movie.
