At today's press event, the team behind Funky shared insights into the film’s unique flavor, its family-friendly appeal, and why this specific brand of comedy is ready to win over the modern, social-media-savvy viewer. Funky heads to theatres on February 13.
S Naga Vamsi described Funky as a non-serious meta film. "This is a simple, cute comedy film that shouldn't be seen with a strict lens. Don't overanalyze the movie, particularly the second half. I don't mean to say that Funky has no story. Punchy comedy and one-liners every once in a while will make you laugh. There was a time when the film set language was not popular with the audience. Today, thanks to the penetration of social media, the lingo is familiar to them. Funky has to be watched with a humorous mindset; don't measure the scenes," the producer added.
The producer feels that Funky will face less criticism than Jathi Ratnalu because the audience are now attuned to the Anudeep brand of comedy. "You have to watch our movie for sure once just for Kayadu Lohar. She is super-glowing!" he shared, adding that Funky is free of double meaning dialogues and vulgarity.
The heroine said that not knowing Telugu was a difficult thing but she simply followed Anudeep's instructions. "I enjoyed doing the comedy genre, thanks to him. I had a great time working with Anudeep KV, one of the distinct names I have worked with. Funky is my first comedy; I hope you all enjoy watching me in this genre. Vishwak Sen has come from no background. It's not easy to be in the position he is in. Watch Funky with your family and have a blast," Kayadu said.
Director Anudeep described Funky as a family-oriented movie. "The story is not about a filmmaker's struggles. It's a love story. Film industry is just the backdrop. Family relations are an important element. The final moments will justify the behaviour of the hero.
Vishwak Sen said, "Our director is extremely relaxed. Bheems Ceciroleo has given a wonderful album. Post release, we are expecting the songs to grow on the audience even more. Thanks to the film's energy, I am relaxed. Some lines were hard to dub for. However, I got into the mood of the film in no time during production. I have liked Anudeep's comedy since Jathi Ratnalu. I think the best jokes have been concealed till now. The run-time of 130 minutes is apt for a film of this genre."
