The Housemaid, the American erotic psychological thriller film, is based on a novel. Released in December 2025, the film is led by Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar.
About eight weeks since its release, it is now considered one of the most profitable ventures in recent times. A massive sleeper hit, it has grossed approximately $354.7 million worldwide. The film was produced for a modest $35 million, meaning it has grossed over 10 times its production cost.
Sydney Sweeney stars as Millie Calloway, a housemaid with a criminal record for killing a rapist. Amanda Seyfried plays a wealthy woman who hires Millie. Directed by Paul Feig, The Housemaid will also have a sequel. "It’s glorious, angry, hilarious, nail-biting fun from a director, writer and cast who all know exactly what they’re doing, and relish in the fact that they’re practically getting away with murder," a review by The Wrap said about the critically-acclaimed Hollywood production. "It goes to places that might make Hannibal Lecter (a character created by American novelist Thomas Harris) blink. The darker it becomes, the more implausible it is, but it’s held together by impressive performances," another review commented.
