World of Nagabandham: Funky's satire, Akhanda's aesthetic

The first glimpse of Nagabandham, titled 'World of Nagabandham', looks grand. On the face of it, the Summer release will involve a lead who is almost God-like. "Born from Brahma’s Creation… Guarded by Vishnu’s Dharma… Powered by Mahadev’s Fury…, this striking line perfectly captures the soul of Nagabandham: a saga where divinity, destiny, and destruction collide," the makers stated, revealing the two-minute teaser that features snow-capped mountains (the Himalayas), a majestic Vishnu temple, an awe-inspiring backdrop, and desperadoes who look like they are from the Abbas-Mastan cinematic world. As per producers Kishore Annapureddy and Nishitha Nagi Reddy, the plot is inspired by an expedition by Ahmad Shah Durrani, the first ruler and founder of the Durrani Empire.

While the scale is spectacular, there is nothing to suggest that Nagabandham's plot is going to be novel. The hero's Lord Shiva-inspired characterization cashes in on an ongoing box-office trend. Even the visual aesthetic feels like we are in the Akhanda/Akhanda 2 universe and the Mirai ecosystem.

Written and directed by Abhishek Nama, the film's action choreography is handled by Kanal Kannan, Vlad Rimburg (USA), Real Sathish, Kecha Khamphakdee, Nandu, Run Navarach (Thailand), and Jr. Venkat. One hopes Nagabandham doesn't justify the satirical digs on the genre by Vishwak Sen's Funky.
