In Euphoria, a youngster gone rogue under the influence of drugs attempts to molest his own mother. The scene is disturbing but the intent is good. Director Gunasekhar's aim is to portray the extremities to which an addict can go when his urges turn wild. However, the scene has received a severe backlash online. "Who would do such a thing to his own mother?" is what many have asked.
It's evident that a large section of the audience don't comprehend the difference between "disturbing" and "perverted". Many scenes that glorify stalking, groping, etc are seen as entertaining, while the fact is they are perverted. Disturbing scenes are seen as perverted, while they are actually just uncomfortable and are meant to caution society.
This is the reason many good ideas don't make it to cinema. They make it to OTT instead. They make it to indie cinema. They make it to festival circuit films. A large section of the audience in some languages don't like to embrace bolder ideas coming from fresh faces. They are prejudiced against some sort of movies.
