Director Dominic Arun has reportedly stated that Chandra (played by Kalyani Priyadarshan) is the weakest superhero in the Lokah series. In the five-part saga, the next four films will feature male superheroes.
The remark by the director has spawned mixed reactions. "Lokah's biggest merit, as far as some audiences are concerned, is that it elevates a female heroine to the level of a superhero. At this juncture, the director shouldn't have blurted out his future plans. He should have let the audience make their inferences after its sequels come out," a viewer opined.
Others opine that gendered biases are inevitable. When Lokah was started, Arun and producer Dulquer Salmaan must not have worked out all the details. They just made a female superhero movie. Now that it has become a roaring blockbuster, they will be making its successors. And making those superhero sequels at the same level as Lokah would be an unexciting endeavour. For both commercial and storytelling purposes, those male superheroes will have to do something more than what Chandra could.
Lokah: Chapter 1 — Chandra was released in Telugu by Sithara Entertainments.
