Shyam Singha Roy, starring Nani, Sai Pallavi and Krithi Shetty, was released in theatres in 2021. The period romantic drama featured Nani in a dual role. The reincarnation element was seen as refreshing by many, while others felt it was superficial.
Four years after its release, Niharika Entertainment has hinted that a sequel (or, a prequel) will be made. A full-fledged movie dedicated to Shyam Singha Roy, Nani's legendary Bengali writer character, will be made, if this hint is anything to go by.
Conventionally speaking, director Rahul Sankrityan will have to make the movie with Nani and none else. However, the actor's schedule is packed for the next three years. This raises the question: Are Netflix and Niharika Entertainment thinking of a spin-off directed and headlined by a different filmmaker-actor duo?
Shyam Singha Roy was mid. It sailed through because of Nani's image. Even Hi Nanna and Dasara are much more popular than that movie. On top of that, there is the sequel/prequel fatigue.
