Bollywood's kingmakers: Kashmir Files, Kerala Story and now Saiyaara

The Hindi box office has mostly been disastrous since the onset of the pandemic. However, some movies have worked on the back of their content and word-of-mouth. They are the ultimate kingmakers.

As per trade analyst Sumit Kadel, in a post-pandemic landscape, several films, despite lacking major star power, franchise backing, or safe genre tags, have defied all projections to become monumental successes.

The latest entry to this exclusive club is Mohit Suri's romance-drama, Saiyaara, which is eyeing a staggering Rs 300 crore mark.

Saiyaara's success mirrors the trajectory of past unexpected blockbusters like The Kashmir Files (Rs 253 Cr) and The Kerala Story (Rs 240 Cr). Many movies featuring superstars like Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan have flopped. In this context, films like Saiyaara have offered respite.
