Mythri Movie Makers has had a mixed streak with debutant filmmakers who have made love stories. Dear Comrade was directed by debutant Bharat Kamma. While the performances by Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna were critically acclaimed, and the film's themes/sensibilities were loved by cinephiles, the film didn't work commercially. Even so, the banner has enough reasons to be proud of producing the sensible movie.
Uppena, directed by newcomer Buchi Babu Sana, was a massive hit. Starring Vaisshnav Tej and Krithi Shetty, the 2021 release boosted Mythri's image before Pushpa did.
Dude, directed by first-time filmmaker Keerthiswaran, is another hit. Starring Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamitha Baiju, the 2025 release is expected to break into the Rs 125 crore club soon.
Failures with non-debutants:
Mythri Movie Makers hoped to deliver a sleeper hit with the recent 8 Vasantalu (not directed by a debutant); the film, however, reached only a niche segment. Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali, directed by Mohanakrishna Indraganti, was a disaster.
