In a rare move, Tollywood actor Siddu Jonnalagadda has reportedly returned Rs 4.75 crore, half of his remuneration, to producer BVSN Prasad after JACK turned out to be a flop. He jacked up his remuneration after the staggering success of Tillu Square.
JACK, directed by Bommarillu Baskhar and co-starring Vaishnavi Chaitanya, Prakash Raj and others, was released in theatres for Summer this year. Curiously, the spy comedy thriller failed to garner decent openings. The quantum of losses suffered by the production house, Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra, is not known. But going by Siddu's gesture, the magnitude was not small. SVCC is known for producing Attarintiki Daredi, among others. It is now producing Naga Chaitanya's 24th movie.
The failure of JACK has essentially killed the lure of the spy genre in Telugu cinema. Many filmmakers are said to have stopped considering it as a commercially viable genre.
Siddu Jonnalagadda awaits the release of Telusu Kada on October 17. This rom-com, directed by Neeraja Kona, co-stars Srinidhi Shetty and Raashi Khanna.
