Recently, actor Dhanush said that he and his cousins were too economically distressed to even afford Idlis as kids. The remark was seen by his trolls as a desperate attempt to garner sympathy ahead of the release of Idli Kadai on October 1. Taken aback by the trolling, the versatile actor has clarified that his family was indeed lower-middle-class before Kasturi Raja (Dhanush's father) became a filmmaker.
“I was born in 1983, and my father Kasturi Raja became a filmmaker in 1991. Even after that, it was not smooth sailing as he had four children and educating us was the priority over any other needs. So it was only around 1995 that we managed to get a good lifestyle,” Dhanush said during a TV show.
Dhanush has written, directed and headlined Idli Kadai, to be released in Telugu as Idli Kottu. The film stars Nithya Menen as the male lead's wife, while Rajkiran plays his father. It is difficult to ascertain if the film will have a smooth-sailing at the Telugu box office. On October 2, Kantara: Chapter 1 will head to theatres.
