As producers defend ticket rate hikes, movie buffs differ

Y Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers has justified ticket rate hikes on the grounds that surge pricing is necessary if the quality of movies must improve. He further added that the hikes are usually as low as Rs 100 and that only about 6-7 movies opt for hikes. The other day, Bunny Vas made a similar statement, saying that hardly 20% of the movies released in a day opt for hikes.

Movie buffs online have differed with the producers, reminding him that even standard ticket prices are already higher in the Telugu States than in Tamil Nadu. "Even movies like Robinhood did opt for hikes to the tune of Rs 75," an X user wrote. When Rajinikanth's Coolie was more expensive to watch in Telugu than in Tamil, thousands of netizens complained openly, prompting the movie's Telugu distributors to have a rethink.

Another commonly-heard complaint is that most single screens are not maintained well, bringing down viewer experience.

Mythri Movie Makers currently awaits the release of Andhra King Taluka on November 27. Ram Pothineni, Bhagyashri Borse and Upendra headline it. Its music is by Vivek-Mervin duo.
