Recent speculative reports surrounding the upcoming film Kannappa, slated for a June 27 release, appear to be highly exaggerated. While the makers are aiming for a wide global release, claiming over 5,400 screens is an ambitious figure for a Telugu devotional film and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Similarly, projections of a Rs 100 crore opening day worldwide seem wildly optimistic. Only a handful of Telugu films have achieved this benchmark, and Kannappa, despite its scale, does not currently possess the groundswell of buzz to warrant such an estimate.
Furthermore, despite the confirmed special appearance by Prabhas, it appears to be doing little to significantly propel the film's pre-release excitement.
Kannappa is headlined by Manchu Vishnu. Recently, Mythri Movie Distributors claimed that the film's trailer has changed the narrative on ground. But since box office bookings remain a non-starter, the opinion stands invalidated.
