HBO's Harry Potter TV series has cast notable actors for key roles. John Lithgow, recently in the Oscar-winning Conclave, will play Dumbledore. Paapa Essiedu, known for I May Destroy You, will portray Severus Snape. Janet McTeer, with credits in Ozark and The Menu, is set as Professor McGonagall. Nick Frost, famous for Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, will take on Hagrid.

JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, has endorsed the series, which is currently in the pre-production stage. "I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD," she wrote.

When a follower asked her if she is a screenwriter, Rowling wrote, "No, but I have worked closely with the extremely talented writers."

Harry Potter fans, meanwhile, don't want the Black actor Paapa Essiedu to play Snape. "You let them ruin the cast.. Snape is not Black, they could have brought in a new Black character instead of ruining Snape's role," a netizen wrote.
