Small filmmakers can help producers recover big losses, but they can't

It is believed that at least two producers have lost Rs 100 Cr each on their disasters. One of them is Dil Raju, whose Game Changer became a major disaster in January this year. His partner, Shirish, recently said that they would have been ruined financially had it not been for Sankranthiki Vasthunam.

What would have entailed had Sankranthiki Vastunam, a beautiful accident, not happened? In an ideal scenario, Ram Charan would have teamed up again with Dil Raju to do a quickie. Another recent film starring a superstar bombed at the box office. As it tanked, it allegedly sank Rs 100 Cr. Ideally, a quickie from the same hero would be trying to help the producer recover the humongous loss.

But small-budget quickies won't happen because Tollywood is cursed with the absence of versatile small filmmakers who can make good dramas with superstars. Their storytelling abilities are limited, their sensibilities are restricted, and their only good film is usually their first film. They are incapable of making a mini Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (with just one hero and in 30 working days). These filmmakers, touted to be new-age talents by immature movie buffs, are rightly not trusted by production houses because of their inability to write for big stars.
