Ram Gopal Varma had three releases as a director in a single year multiple times. He directed three films in 1999: Prema Katha (Telugu), Kaun, and Mast (the last two in Hindi).
This was after making the trend-setting Satya in 1998. The Bollywood film was a phenomenon. Today's directors, after making a blockbuster that is not even a classic, waste years looking to make a pan-Indian biggie. Their next movie hits the cinemas after 4-5 years, only to become an average performer at the box office. And here was RGV who made three films after a momentous movie like Satya. And those three movies were better by today's standards.
By the way, RGV also had three director credits in 2007 (Nishabd, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, and Darling), 2008 (Sarkar Raj, Contract, and Phoonk), and 2011 (Katha Screenplay Darsakatvam Appalaraju, Dongala Mutha, and Not a Love Story). But most of these films were mediocre.
