A free mega diabetic treatment camp was organised on the 20th of this month at Sri Rastu Function Hall in Dendukuru, Madhira, Khammam district. The camp was held on the occasion of the 86th birth anniversary of late Rebel Star Krishnam Raju. It was part of the 3rd annual health camp of the UK India Diabetic Foot Foundation.
People from Khammam, Madhira and nearby areas attended in large numbers. More than 3,000 patients received free medical check-ups, medicines and treatment. Special focus was given to diabetes and diabetic foot complications. The medical services were led by noted diabetic foot surgeon Dr. Venu Kavarthapu. A total of 32 doctors from India and other countries took part in the camp.
Deputy CM praises family’s initiative
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka attended the programme as chief guest. He was accompanied by Smt. Nandini Vikramarka and Mallu Surya Vikramaditya. Speaking on the occasion, he praised the family of Krishnam Raju for organising the camp in his memory. He said many poor people remain unaware of diabetes until it reaches a serious stage. He appreciated Smt. Shyamala Devi and Praseeda for extending free medical care to the underprivileged.
A life-changing experience in London
Smt. Shyamala Devi said the idea for free diabetic camps came from Krishnam Raju’s own experience during his treatment in London. He felt that poor people could not afford such care. After discussions with Dr. Venu, he decided to organise free camps every year. The first camp was held in Mogalthur, the second in Bhimavaram, and the third in Madhira. She said the initiative would continue in the coming years with the same commitment.
