Monica, who was also known as Parvana in Malayalam cinema, began her career as a child artist in the early 1990s and appeared in over 70 films. Her roles were predominantly in Tamil language films, but she also acted in Malayalam and other South Indian films. She is known for her performances in many prominent Tamil movies.

At a time when she was gaining popularity in Tamil and Malayalam cinema, she surprised everyone by announcing her conversion to Islam. In 2014, Monica converted to Islam and changed her name to MG Rahima, at which point she announced she had quit acting. She issued a statement saying that she was not lured into the religion through money.

Siva Rama Raju, released in 2002, was her first Telugu movie. The film was directed by V Samudra. Maa Alludu Very Good also featured her in a lead role. She did small films like Paisalo Paramatma and Koduku in Telugu, but they didn't bring her fame.
