Horror is a genre Hollywood has always loved to experiment in. Based on worldwide box office gross, a few films stand out in the last few years as the most successful horror movies from the industry.

It (2017): This film grossed over $704 million worldwide. It is often cited as one of the highest-grossing horror films of all time.

Five Nights at Freddy's (2023): With a worldwide gross of over $291 million, this video game adaptation was a huge commercial success. The film, however, received mixed reviews. "The low-stakes, late-night thrill we expect from the material never arrives, held back by a mixture of indecisive restraint and misplaced self-importance," The Guardian wrote.

A Quiet Place Part II (2020): This film grossed over $297 million worldwide, a strong performance especially considering its release during the COVID-19 pandemic. The post-apocalyptic horror film was written and directed by John Krasinski.

The Nun II (2023): As part of the popular Conjuring universe, this sequel performed well, bringing in over $269 million worldwide. The Gothic supernatural horror film was directed by Michael Chaves.

Smile (2022): This film was a breakout hit, grossing over $217 million worldwide on a relatively small budget. The supernatural psychological horror film was written and directed by Parker Finn.
