“Sir, what I am going to tell you is the truth. The people who killed, the ones who got killed, the place (of crime), the names, the time, the town, everything is true. But don’t use the names of real persons and places (in your film). You should put out a disclaimer, saying your film doesn't resemble any persons. If not, you will be inviting trouble from bigwigs," says the versatile Simbu in a promo of Saamrajyam, released on Friday. Jr NTR shared it digitally. And, by design, the Devara actor is referenced by Simbu in this one of the lengthiest title promos ever.
The period action drama thriller, directed by Vetri Maaran, is apparently set in the era of Chiranjeevi's Gang Leader, when Simbu's underdog character ostensibly hacked an oppressor to death. Add a trial, an investigation, a courtroom proceeding and you have a socially conscious cinematic product. The film's second schedule is on the cards.
If you are wondering what the Vada Chennai reference is about in the promo, the Tamil-language movie was directed by Vetri himself and was headlined by Dhanush. Saamrajyam will make an intriguing connection to Vetri's famed themes from his previous movies.
The Telugu version will be released in theatres via Suresh Productions, which has previously collaborated with Kollywood producer Kalaipuli S Thanu on Narappa. Anirdh Ravichander's music is expected to feel fresh.
