In 1990, actor Giri Babu spent a bomb to make a cowboy film titled Indrajith with his son, Bose Babu, as the hero. However, the film faced an unexpected crisis. Around the time he planned to release Indrajith, Chiranjeevi's Kodama Simham was up for release. Since Kodama Simham, too, was a cowboy movie, Chiru decided to release it first so that it wouldn't look repetitive if it came out after Indrajith.
"Because Kodama Simham flopped, it affected the pre-release business of my film. The buyers who came to purchase Indrajith left without buying it, saying that Megastar Chiranjeevi's film had been advanced. We had to sell Indrajith for much less than what we had invested. I had spent Rs 45 lakhs at that time. I had to sell it for just Rs 20 lakhs," Giri Babu once said in an interview.
Even though the relations between Chiranjeevi and Giri Babu soured after this episode, they later maintained healthy relations. "Whenever we run into each other at film events, Chiranjeevi hugs me warmly. Recently, I congratulated him on making Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy," Giri Babu said in an interview in 2019.
So, it is true that Giri Babu did say that he was hurt by Chiranjeevi's move in 1990, but it's also true that the episode didn't affect their relations beyond a point.
