In a recent interview, The Girlfriend director Rahul Ravindran commented that 2018 saw unprecedented versatility of content in Telugu cinema. The variety on offer, he added, was aplenty. Goodachari, Rangasthalam, Mahanati, Bharat Ane Nenu, RX 100, AWE, Needhi Naadhi Okate Katha, Care Of Kancharapalem, Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi, and the director's own Chi La Sow were released in the same year.
Rahul analyzed that people were ready to take risks that year because of the huge profits Baahubali 2: The Conclusion delivered. "The industry was flush with funds from Baahubali 2's success. The quantum of money in circulation was unprecedented," Rahul added.
The reverse happened in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, with theatrical revenues dwindling and OTT revenues slowly coming down within three years of the pandemic.
