Anupama, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu are upset with excessive scrutiny

Actress Anupama Parameswaran has commented that women-centric movies are subjected to greater scrutiny, while commercial movies are given leeway. She made the comments with respect to Paradha, a film panned by some critics.

The Karthikeya 2 actress is not the first one to make such a comment. Vidya Balan, known for her roles in films like Kahaani and The Dirty Picture, has been a vocal advocate for women's roles and has spoken about the challenges faced by female-led films. Similarly, actress Jyothika has also commented on the issue, pointing out that South Indian commercial cinema, in particular, has a problem with multi-dimensional female characters and that the audience is also partly to blame for this, as they tend to give more importance to male heroes.

Other actresses like Taapsee Pannu, Richa Chadha, and Parvathy Thiruvothu have also consistently used their platforms to discuss and challenge the portrayal of women in films.

Anupama will next be seen in Kishkindhapuri, starring Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas in the lead. As of now, the horror movie is scheduled to be released in theatres on September 12.
