Expectations from AR Murugadoss have been dim ever since Mahesh Babu's SPYder. As such, the trailer of Madharaasi had nothing much going for it. Its technical superiority is stark, whereas its plot points seem to be a bundle of cliches.
Sivakathikeyan, Rukmini Vasanth and Vidyut Jammwal play the most important characters in this 'high-stakes professional challenge meets a deeply personal motivation' story. The cat-and-mouse chase element doesn't look exciting.
The heavy lifting has to be done by Anirudh Ravichander's music, Kevin Kumar's action choreography, and the performances.
Also starring Biju Menon, Shabeer Kallarakkal, and Vikranth, Madharaasi is cooked if it doesn't boast delightful characterizations and one or two plot-related surprises.
Madharaasi heads to theatres on September 5. Its clash with Little Hearts, Ghaati and a couple of Hindi films makes its box-office take-off all the more daunting in Telugu and Hindi.
