The Andhra Pradesh police have reportedly started taking action against those spreading "false information" on social media for politically motivated reasons. The alleged misinformation in the context of the recent bus fire tragedy in Kurnool is the trigger.
Official YSRCP representative Anchor Shyamala is among those alleged to have spread falsehoods about the accident. She has been criticized by the ruling TDP for saying that a biker had purchased alcohol from a belt liquor shop. "Since Shyamala did not clarify or retract her statements made publicly, the police have registered cases against her and others involved," a report says.
Earlier this year, Shyamala faced a police investigation into her endorsement of online betting apps. The Telangana High Court asked her to cooperate with investigators.
