James Cameron has stated that he will hold a press conference to reveal the stories of Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 if the Avatar franchise ends after Avatar 3. Why would it end? It's possible that Avatar 3's commercial viability is in doubt after negative 'word of mouth', although BO pundits argue that it will be profitable because it collected $500 million in the first week.
Cameron's statement has surprised many. "The fact that he is even saying this shows how bad not only this recent movie has gone over with audiences, but also how mundane and tired the series itself has gotten. All the memes about the villains can't make up for an apathetic audience tired of not seeing a plot advance," an X user commented.
"Holding a press conference to explain unmade sequels is Cameron's way of ensuring the story gets told somehow," a movie buff added. "Plot for movies 4 and 5: More blue people swim and talk and fight and no one cares much but the effects will be gnarly," a user joked.
James Cameron is not in favour of using shortcuts in making Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 to cut down production costs. He is against the use of gen AI.
